Our Summer is nearly over!!!

To celebrate the end of a great summer, Drake had some friends over for a special pool party. Destin had some of his friends as well. When it finally got dark around 8:45 pm, we used the Ash's video projector to show "Jaws". We kept the pool dark until the shark would attack, and then we turned on the lights --- with the red lenses over them....
Our good camera was in the shop at that time, so the photo below was the best we can show you.

Phil had quite a few days off in a row, so (at Shannon's request) he grew a few facial hairs. as you can see, they are mostly WHITE (!!! and very prickley) In observance of our 21st wedding anniversary on Aug 15th, they were shaved off. -- but we took this photo first.

Destin and Sean have continued to "jam" and recorded some tunes of their own which can be heard at myspace.com/deadstraight88

Check 'em out, eh!

This is an original Drake McIntosh from the present vintage. He will continue to study art this coming school year.

Dr. Montanes, our beloved (Colombian) pediatrician (basically for our kid's entire lives) is retiring. We are very happy for her, as her career has touched so many lives; but we will miss her ever so much. She has been so wonderful. This year's pre-school check-ups were our last opportunity to see her. It was a very special visit. God bless you Dr. Montanes!!!

There are still a few days of summer left, though, and the house is still rockin!!!!!!

NASA Space Center with Baron Hall

Today we visited the Johnson Space center with Baron Hall, a friend of Shannon's from high school. He is an engineer for Martin Marrietta, and is actually working on the current moon rocket program!!! It was a fantastically interesting time.

Baron is pointing to the new Orion capsule that his projects are for. He is working on the environmental controls and systems for the ship.

This is an actual Apollo moon-shot rocket !
Destin successfully landed the shuttle (simulator) several times

Drake flew this T-38 simulator using virtual reality vision goggles

Baron came with his two daughters, Erin and Alex, and a friend Shelby. In addition to the four of us, Jacob and Kyle came as well.

This was the shuttle mission control room, but the displays up on the big screens were showing the "Int'l Space Station" activities (because there are no shuttles aloft right now).

We cruised the eastern Carribean in June

Coco Cay is our favorite stop
we got there early in the a.m. before the crowds

We all enjoyed a great view of the ship from"Senor Frog's" in Nasssau

The sunset was famously fine as we departed Key West

Something about the unique sculpture in the background inspired grand-daddy to dance!!

10 people were in our party, flying standby to Miami!!! Somehow we all got there and back again!!! The cruise departed from Miami and sailed to Nassau, Coco Cay and Key West. It was a wonderful time.

Other (random) big memories from this summer

Shannon's 21st high school re-union was held over the July 4th weekend

Destin attended a "Stuebenville" youth rally in Lafayette La. His group from our church is in the dark blue shirts (foreground)

We got to see Mimi and Papa do a little square dancing

We suprised Mimi with "Millie" as a Mother's day present

Drake attended a middle-school youth retreat at our church that was put on by "core team" members of the highschool youth

It is never unusual to find us all hanging out with our next door neighbors, the Ash's. Destin and his buddy Sean were serenading us on this occasion with some of their original music. We often find ourselves around this piano singing and or listening to great live performances.
June took a new job at a different bank, so we toured her branch. We rejoice that she has found a place to work where she is much happier.

Lloyd and Lynn Simpson came with us to the Hawkins' pond. Just look how big the fish are this year!!

The boys had fun swimming and goofing off with their cousins

Destin worked with this "shine" group from the church on a week-long mission stlye work/retreat in Galveston.

We enjoyed the company of family and extended family over the weekend of Destin's Confirmation (photos of the actual confirmation mass did not turn out so well)

Our God parents, Phil and Kate fontain also came from Florida to be with all of us for that blessed occasion!

Drake spent 24 hours in a box

We spent a short time with Bissaillons in San Antonio. Drake is playing here with John, Ben (our God son) and Sophia: the beautiful children of our friends Philip and Jena

After the last day of school, we had a special "burning of the homework" party

We enjoyed a special visit with our aunt Alice in ICU (also in San Antonio)

Bishop Rizotto, Msgr Borski (our pastor) and a group of friends from our church took us on a special tour of our new downtown cathedral. It was a very special time.

Destin got his driver's license!!!!!! (Thank you grand-daddy for your awesome truck!!)

While not in school, the boys often came and worked with us downtown at "Martha's Kitchen"
